The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award

We are very proud to offer all our clients at Manaaki Ability Trust the opportunity to participate in and complete The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award.

The Award offers three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Participants choose activities to complete each of the sections; voluntary service, skills and physical recreation, with opportunities to achieve their hours in programmes at Manaaki or out in the community.

Each award level also plans and completes their own Adventurous Journey where they experience the outdoors and travel away overnight.  Previously we have taken groups to the Marlborough Sounds for kayaking, an overnight tramp to the Turere Lodge in the Remutaka Ranges as well as to Nga Manu Reserve and Kapiti Island.

We offer award level based programmes each week.  Participants are supported during a weekly program, where they can update their progress, connect and share stories, as well as be inspired by those who are also completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award around the world.

We are currently supporting the efforts of clients participating in all 3 levels of the Award and our first group completing their Gold Adventurous Journey in 2025.
